Around The Grounds: Kit Clashes, Broken Collarbone’s & Mixed Results
The senior men have continued their good start to the season with a win against South Yarra at Howard Dawson Reserve.
The match started like any other Sunday League fixture where the away side rocked up wearing red (a clear kit clash) and the ref couldn’t believe the cricket pitch in the middle of the soccer field.
The match was a tough contest with the ‘Burne prevailing 2-1 thanks to a double to Mackenzie Hyder who is rumoured to be staying this year with a deal to be struck any day now.
Attendance from Andrew Gosney, Rebecca Lee & Ben Fox, all former players of the club, certainly inspired the seniors victory, tripling the club’s average attendance.
Wearing our brand-new kits thanks to Jace Cleaning the Reserves had a tough slog taking their first loss of the season in a 5-1 demolishing at the hands of Riversdale.
Centre-back Matt Kingerlee was forced out of the match after suffering a suspected fractured collarbone and was taken to hospital. He is recovering well.
In other news, our thirds side had no luck against Collingwood going down 6-0 but a promising display from goalkeeper Hayden Smith was the clear standout despite the side’s loss.
