Club History

The original Swinburne Soccer Club can be dated back to 1978 in the year the club was established. One of the earliest photos of the club is from circa 1981 seen below.

It is believed that the club had to fold in the late 90s and did not return until 2003 when past players and then current students at Swinburne University re-formed the club and committee and entered two men’s teams into the Amateur Soccer Federation of Victoria (VicSoccer) with a Seniors and Reserves team.

In 2004 the club moved to better (and closer) facilities at Fritsch Holzer Park in Camberwell, and entered a women’s team into the VicSoccer women’s league.

Unfortunately the women’s competition was abolished by the league the following year however the men’s teams continued to grow.

In 2006 the club moved to bigger and better facilities at Howard Dawson Reserve and the following year a women’s team was re-introduced.

2012 was the year the first trophy for Swinburne FC was won with our women’s side claiming the silverware.

The following year our men’s sides entered the Football Federation of Victoria (FFV) and joined the Victorian State Leagues starting at State League 5.

The final season of playing in the State Leagues was 2018, with the club moving exclusively to the Metropolitan leagues from 2019 onwards.

The club has seen lots of success in the Metro Leagues winning the Metro 4 & Metro 5 championships as well as the Metro 7 South East Premiership.
