Around The Grounds: Seniors Continue Metro 2 Dominance with a Springvale Thrashing
The fifth round of the Metropolitan competitions featured some wild scorelines and a few Swinburne wins.
The Seniors traveled to the Bahn Mi capital of Victoria in Springvale, where they faced bottom-side Springvale South. It was complete domination in Springvale, thanks to a John McKenna first-half hat-trick at the stroke of half-time.
An impressive goal came from Vietnamese international Dương Nguyên Phúc, who scored a sublime goal from 30 yards out. More impressively, Dương didn’t commit a foul throw after four offenses in the last two weeks.
The second half started the way the first half ended, with more goals added to the scoresheet, bringing the total to an impressive nine goals.
In our other games, our Reserves picked up a big win against Knox with a 4-2 victory away from home. A double from Elijah Swift (no relation to Taylor) and goals by Peter Makropolous and Ansel Furtado (no relation to Nelly) were enough to secure all three points, placing Steven Archer’s side second on the table in Metro 6.
Our Thirds put up another resilient effort despite losing 4-1, with a debut goal from Josh Denholm being a massive highlight for the side as they search for their first win of the season.
“King Denny’s first goal for the club was worth seeing,” said Thirds Coach Seb Blackson.
The weekend was best summed up by Reserves Coach Steven Archer: “14 goals for and 7 goals against for the club is a good day,” Archer said.
We have a double-header next Sunday at Howard Dawson Reserve, with our Reserves and Thirds playing, while our Seniors enjoy a bye.
