Across the Reserve: Undefeated Streaks and a Thirds Revival

Thomas Burchsmith

The seniors continued their strong start to the season with a 2-0 win over Old Xaverians SC at Hays Paddock.

William Townsend got the Burners off to the perfect start with a long-range free kick early in the first half that was fumbled by the keeper.

Ansel doubled the lead shortly after with a tidy finish, and from there, the backline held firm to see out another solid result.

That’s two wins & two draws after four matches for the Seniors, remaining well in the hunt for the Metro 2 South-East title.

There was a setback off the field, with new signing Nathan Douglas showing up on crutches after picking up a ligament injury in last week’s Round 3 win.

The reserves were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw in their clash with Monash, conceding late after leading late in the match.

Rishaub Srinivasan got his goalscoring account open scoring both goals for Swinburne.

Despite the late equaliser, the point keeps the reserves unbeaten and on top of the table with 10 points from four rounds.

Earlier in the day, the thirds claimed a rare but well-deserved win, their second in just over two and a half years.

Joel Kleber was the standout, scoring twice in a 2-1 victory that backs up last weekend’s win and gives the side real momentum for the first time in a long while.

Two wins in two weeks for the Thirds. Unbeaten Reserves & Seniors’ sides.

It’s shaping up to be an exciting season across the club.
