Six of the Best for the Seniors as All Three Teams Return Positive Results

Staff Writer

Another action-packed triple header at Howard Dawson Reserve, a stunning six-goal showing from the seniors, a gutsy comeback win for the reserves and a hard-earned point for the thirds to grab their first point of the season.

Seniors 6–0 Monash

Swinburne FC’s senior side produced their most complete performance of the year, dismantling Monash University Brumbies 6–0 at Howard Dawson Reserve to move to six points from six to open the Metro 2 South-East season.

Poung Thay set the tone early, unleashing a long-range strike that looped beautifully over the opposing goalkeeper.

Thay would be involved not long after when he slid a ball through to Martiniano Miranda to double the lead finishing into the bottom-right corner before making his way to the corner flag for what is fast becoming a signature celebration.

The match turned further in Swinburne’s favour when the Monash goalkeeper was shown a straight red card for bringing down Miranda as the last man on a through ball, with the referee showing no hesitation.

Miranda required several minutes of attention before play could resume but was able to continue.

Playing against ten men, the floodgates opened in the 55th minute when Miranda grabbed his second of the afternoon, finishing off a well-worked assist from Arian Asadpour.

Poung added his second shortly after before Arian rounded off a fine personal display by netting his first senior goal for the club, the product of a sharp ball from Ned Lobbert who was making his own seniors debut on the day.

Chris Kennedy completed the rout in the 85th minute to make it six grabbing his first goal in red & white.

A statement result puts the Seniors into 1st on the table.

  • Goals: P. Thay (12′, 70′), M. Miranda (16′, 56′), A. Asadpour (85′), and C. Kennedy (86′).
Reserves 3–2 Old Xaverians

The Reserves claimed their first three points of the season in a thriller against Old Xaverians, showing considerable character to fight back and secure a 3–2 victory.

James Barr gave Swinburne an ideal start, capitalising on a swift counter-attack to put the side ahead early.

The lead didn’t last long. Old Xaverians drew level from the penalty spot before doubling their advantage almost immediately with a superb half-volley from outside the box.

Ryan Devine pulled the side level before the break to keep Swinburne in the contest.

The winner arrived in the second half through an Old Xaverians own goal, and the side held firm to the final whistle to earn a well-deserved three points.

A first win of the season for the Reserves and a significant confidence boost heading into Round 3.

Thirds 2–2 Central Park

The Thirds picked up their first points of the 2026 season with a 2–2 draw against Central Park, a result that will be welcomed after last week’s second-half disappointment.

Ansel Furtado opened his account for the season with a well-taken finish, set up by an excellent Alex Revill assist.

Joel Kleber then added his second goal of the season, squeezing a header home in the second half to give Swinburne hope of all three points.

Central Park held on to earn their share of the spoils.
