Harry Lawrence has announced his resignation as coach of the Reserves (Metro 5 South East) side, effective immediately, paving the way for a new generation to take the side forward.

Lawrence, who has spent two years on the coaching staff, said the decision came down to being unable to commit.

“I just can’t give it the time of day it deserves,” Lawrence said.

He confirmed the plan to move on had been in place before Friday night’s terrible 3-2 loss to Monash.

“This is hard for me — I love this club.” he said.

Lawrence said staying connected to the group had become difficult while he’d been away from the club.

“I wouldn’t have thought I’d be able to step away if it wasn’t for the great work of Nik and James. I’ve got all the confidence in the world that they will continue the great work I’ve done.”

Reflecting on his two years with the coaching staff, Lawrence said the experience had been a rewarding one, capped off by a premiership.

“My two years in the coaching staff have been fantastic and the opportunity was something I really wanted to take. I commend the club for the faith they had in me.”

Asked whether he had any regrets from his time in charge, Lawrence said he would not be disclosing them at this stage.

For now, Lawrence said his focus will shift to family, though he stopped short of ruling out a return to coaching down the track.

“Look, for now I’m going to take some time to focus on my family. I’ll never say never, but we’ll see what the future holds.”

The club thanks Harry for his contribution over the past two years, including guiding the side to a premiership, and wishes him well.

The club will confirm our new interim reserves coach at a later stage.
