Around The Grounds: Seniors Dismantle Middle Park in 5-1 Thrashing

Thomas Burchsmith

The Senior Men’s side has started their 2024 campaign with a dominant display in a 5-1 thrashing of Middle Park.

After moving up two leagues, the 1sts dominated early with a terrific goal early on as Jack O’Shea opened his account.

The home side never looked in control as Swinburne added to the score sheet with goals to Jamie Coulthard and new Ballarat signing John Mckenna.

A goal for Matt Gleeson and a second for Jack O’Shea in the second half secured the victory in Port Melbourne.

In other news the Reserves started Metro 6 SE in style grabbing all three points in Aspendale with a 5-4 win.

A hat-trick to Elijah Swift and goals to Alex Boni Finch & Nathan Gorga in his return match for the club ensured victory.

“We were up 5-1 but lost our way a bit,” Gorga said

“But we held strong.”

Controversial Head Coach Stever Archer was asked to comment on his sides opening round win with a coy response.

“Game was okay,” Stever Archer said.

“Jesus Christ. I got home had a shower and had chow and there’s people badging for a game report” Archer said after he was followed up for a more detailed comment.

Back at HDR the thirds put up a solid display scoring two goals in the first half but they were unfortunately not able to hold onto their 2-1 lead eventually going down 5-2 at the hands of Baxter.

Swinburne FC will have two back-to-back games this Sunday at our home ground Howard Dawson Reserve.
